WARNING: The following Top Ten list contains extreme amounts of gore, it is not for the weak hearted.

TOP TEN SAW TRAPS
Happy Halloween, everyone! I wish I could have one, unfortunately I’ve had a rough week. My computer, breaks, so I’m having to write this article on some crappy laptop. Then, last night I watched Saw V with my friends, I mean hey, a movie is a movie, right? What’s the harm? I had low expectations of the series since Saw IV, but maaan….this one really takes the cake! Just don’t watch this movie, no traps will be featured in this list from the movie, because they’re all terrible.

Anyway, not to spook anyone out for tonight, I won’t post any pictures of the traps themselves in action, ripping people limb form limb and stuff, they’re just too violent to show out loud in this article, but I have provided links to videos of them. This week, I’ve watched all 5 SAW movies, if you want my personal opinions on them, they go in this order: Good, Okay, Average, Bad, Terrible. 2 scenes with Tobin Bell in it? You call this a SAW movie!? Eh, let’s just get on with the list. Get ready for the sheer terror and foul nature of the Top Ten most brutal, distressing, nail bitting and gore-ific SAW traps ever created!
10. Paul’s Trap, The Maze – SAW
Let’s start off with some comic relief, this is one hell of a trap! A fat, self harming man in stripped naked and trapped inside a room full of razor wire, he has 2 hours to get out or the exit seals shut forever! This trap is just hilarious, they speed up the tape, so it’s just a giant blur running around, cutting himself everywhere! This is down right silly, but it introduces us to the fast editing nature of the SAW films. A good trap nonetheless.

9. Morgan & Rex’s Trap, The Anatomy – SAW IV
This is a pretty redundant trap and it’s over pretty quickly (why do you think it’s so low down on the list?), but it has it’s pluses. An abusive father and a quiet mother are stuck together with several metal spikes going though each other’s torsos. The thing is, they can’t see each other and the father has spikes going through almost every major artery in his body. Anxious to get out, the mother quickly attempts to remove the spikes from their bodies, but ends up puncturing a hole in the father’s throat. It’s not exactly a great trap, but it’s good to see some revenge on the bastard whose beating his wife and daughter, everyone loves the small shred of anti-hero in the killer.

8. Michael’s Trap, The Venus Fly Trap – SAW II
One of the most famous SAW traps, I had to include it in this list! Would you scrape your own eyeball out to free yourself from death? It takes a lot of balls to go through with those sort of traps when it’s all down to you. Unfortunately for old Michael, he just didn’t have the amount of balls needed to survive and thus his head is incased in a Iron Maiden mask.

7. Timothy’s Trap, The Twisting Crucifix – SAW III
Oh man, now it’s getting tense as hell! This is a really disturbing scene, The Twisting Crucifix is one of the most horrific traps I’ve seen in the SAW series, but not really the best. “The Rack” as Jigsaw calls it, is completely out of the victim’s control, it’s all down to Jeff, a man who needs to forgive the killer of his son. But, as usual in the SAW trade, he just doesn’t do it fast enough and Timothy’s limbs and head are twisted round, pretty much 360 degrees.

6. Addison’s Trap, The Wrists – SAW II
Fear and patience, it’s what Addison had and didn’t have. She was just looking for an antidote to the nerve gas she was breathing in. When all possible routes had failed, she turned to the glass box, a big mistake. If only she hadn’t put her second hand inside, she could have standed a chance. All I can say about this trap is, ouch. Ouch, ouch, ouch! …and what an idiot!

5. Art & Trevor’s Trap, The Mausoleum – SAW IV
Two men, one’s eyes have been sewn together, as has the other’s mouth, making communication impossible. Their situation worsens when an unknown device pulls them closer via the chains around their necks. This trap emphasizes helplessness and the unknown, mainly because we never actually find out what the trap does, but we can assume it’s fatal. One man must eventually conquer in order to free himself and remove the stitches from his face.

4. Amanda’s Trap, The “Reverse” Bear Trap – SAW
Come on, if you know SAW, then you know Amanda has to be somewhere in this list and since her time in the needle pit was pretty lousy, it’s gotta be the reverse bear trap! Shawnee Smith is great as the somewhat more demented sidekick to Jigsaw (and damn, she is hot), but she originally started out as a victim, in one of the coolest traps ever made. A shut bear trap is locked into her jaws and once the timer stops, it snaps open, permanently keeping her jaws flat open, yeowch! Not only that, but to get the key to free herself, she must cut open the stomach of her dead cell mate, who isn’t really dead! He was given a muscle paralyzer and just had to sit there while she stabbed him to death, unknowing!

3. Obi’s Trap, The Furnace – SAW II
Obi deserves a high place in this list, not because of his trap or his past, but his performance in SAW II. You know never find out anything about this guy and he dies about 30 mins into the film, so clearly his story is not his highlight, but when he becomes trapped in the furnace and the flames begin to rise and everyone is panicking, it becomes a genuinely scary moment, because you becoming distressed watching it! This guy is screaming for his life and yet nothing can be done.

2. Lawrence’s Trap, The Saw – SAW
Dr. Lawrence Gordon and Adam Faulkner were the two main original victims in the SAW series, what they experience introduces us to the world of the Jigsaw killer and when his foot is chained to the wall in a public toilet and is given a saw, he begins to cut away at his foot after the chains are too strong. After minutes of distressing cutting and Adam screaming in the background, the kidnapper of his family emerges and tries to kill both of them, Dr. Lawrence crawls out of the opened bathroom with one foot and a pale white face. His fate is unknown, but the odds were against him.

1. Adam’s Trap, The Bathroom – SAW
This is with out a doubt, the best SAW trap ever. I can list so many reasons why it makes SAW a great horror movie. Not, only does the trap last the entire movie, but it also holds the secrets to the real identity of The Jigsaw Killer! You see, back when SAW came out, we thought Jigsaw was a man named Zepp Hindle, a worker at Dr. Lawrence’s hospital who befriended John Kramer there. Zepp was only a pawn in Jigsaw’s game and it wasn’t until the end of the movie that we realized that Jigsaw was the corpse in the middle of the bathroom this whole time. Adam was trapped in the bathroom for less than a day, but what he witnessed was far worse than any trap in any SAW movie to date. He saw Dr. Lawrence saw his own foot off and pretty much bleed to death before making it anywhere, he was then locked in the room for all eternity by Jigsaw after proclaiming “GAME OVER!”. Not to mention, being electrocuted and getting shot in the chest. His screams are still heard over the credits and Adam’s true demise is not discovered until SAW III. Trust me this is most unsettling, disturbing, yet by far the best SAW trap ever.
Fun Fact: Adam Falkner was played by SAW Co-Creator, Writer and Executive Producer Leigh Whannell.

Honourable mentions include Kerry’s Trap in the Rib Cage, it could have been a potential number, but the way it was shot was awful, the payoff was pretty average too. Cecil’s Trap, The Knife Chair, not enough gore though and had a stupid climax.
Well I hope you enjoyed this list, tonight is your last night to watch some great, classic horror movies: Halloween, Friday The 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, hell even SAW 1, but please, don’t waste your theater money on SAW 5, every character is just boring and uninspired, Detective Hoffman fails :(

For the record, you said that Adam saw Gordon bleed to death. No, he didn’t. Gordon’s fate is still unknown.
I said “pretty much” bleed to death, which is true. And I do note his fate is unknown, but I said the odds were against him.
i dont think saw 5 wasnt worth my money. i enjoyed it very much actually. it had a stupid ending but still it was good!
Sorry, just wanted to say that In Morgan and Rex’s trap, she knew it would kill him, Jigsaw basically told her and there was a diagram of the human circulatory system in front of her which basically told her what would happen, and in Art and Trevor’s trap, the device in the middle would have crushed them, bringing them into the metal along with their chains. I think the Ice Block Trap in Saw IV should have been in there somewhere! But mostly, I agree with your ratings. Excluding Saw V of course, the Hand Saw trap was pretty gruesome and brilliant in that one :)
Thats not a bad selection I would agree with most, the only one I didn’t like was The Mausoleum, it wasn’t that bad to watch but there was no explanation how they got there, there was no tape recorder involved & we don’t know who set it up.
My top ten are

the trap itself:
A man in a chair with two drills comming closer and closer towards his temples.. the only way out is to find the right key amongst (ruffly) 16 others to unlock himself and escape.. luckily for this bastered the cops shot the drills.. still though, scary trap non the less that would make me shit my pants D: XD :P!!

yeah im only 12, but damn do i love SAW. i mean no movie has ever scared me except the saw series. the fernace trap though wasnt scary enough, i liked the eyeball key one the most, then the angle trap! hell, the acid was freaken weird and scary, but the handblade trap really got my heart pumping, i didnt know if she was gonna make it, sadly the girl was left behind. ( probably starved to death, or then again, blead to death) Thats my review you saw lovers. oh and check out the new Saw 6. but seeya!!!
forgot to tell u my email. its devon.cutak@yahoo.com oh, and only send me email based on the saw movies, or movie review request, ill tell u a review for the horror movie of your choice
I think that the angel trap where the person’s ribs were ripped apart should have been up there. I watched it very closely and found that if she didn’t unlock the lock it would have stopped the “wings” from opening and killing her. Anyway since im only 11 I have to watch the movies withought my parents knowing so I can’t get into the theaters. Are the movies better in theaters?
