Just as “Fan Time” reviews Fan Material, and “Awful Anime Guy” reviewed series with video, “Lost in Translation” is Awful Anime Guy’s review of Anime Series, Anime News and anything related to Japanimation, that will grind my gears…
BLOOD PLUS.
At least that’s what I think the name of this series is, it could be “Blood Cross”, “Blood Positive”, or “Blood Sideways-Multiplication-Sign”. But for the sake of calling it a failed math equation, Blood Plus.
The show aired on Cartoon Network in 2007, and stopped once all the episodes were over in 2008.
I don’t remember however actually seeing a single episode of the show on Adult Swim, probably because it was late, or because Bleach was on, and that caused me to change the channel to MadTV.
What would you rather watch?
Anyway, here is what I know about the show -
Plot
Under the care of her adoptive family, Saya Otonashi has been living the life of an anemic and amnesiac, but otherwise ordinary schoolgirl. Saya’s happy life is shattered when she is attacked by a chiropteran, learning that she is the only one who can defeat them.
Armed with her katana, Saya embarks on a journey with her family, allies, and her chevalier, Haji,[1] to rid the world of chiropteran and rediscover her identity. The course of the journey reveals the background history of the chiropterans and Saya’s very deep past, which extends into the mid-19th century.
The series is initially set in present day (September 2005) Okinawa City (Koza), on Okinawa Island, near the US Kadena Air Base. In the course of the series, Saya visits locations across the world, fighting enemy chiropteran and searching for her origins.
Now, you might be saying “Awful Anime Guy you are stealing this off Wikipedia”
But I am here to say, I am using a “Citation” instead, because Wikipedia is the ALL AMERICAN ENCYCLOPEDIA! But here is where, I get very very confused… chiropterans… what the fuck are they? Are they people who eat only Chiropractors? Well checking back to wiki…
Chiropterans
Chiropterans are hematophagous bat-like creatures that live by feeding on human blood. They generally possess extraordinary speed, strength, and supernatural healing abilities. They are also capable of contorting and transforming various body parts in order to fly or have longer limbs and higher level chiropterans have the ability to disguise themselves as ordinary humans.
*Artists Conception*
The main character, Saya , usually forgets about everything going on, which often makes me groan into “Do we have to have another flashback?” And sure enough, we get it, MANY MANY TIMES. How many flashbacks do you need? Am I watching Blood Plus, or Family Guy?
“I think I got, I think I got, I think I got…. AMNE$IA!”
So between fighting bats, flashbacks, and long narratives, you will just have to change the channel, because you know there is something better, on Standard Television…
So my final thoughts are…
I forgot.
