BioShock Gets Hollywood Treatment, Pirate Style!
This just in, Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that the Xbox360 blockbuster is now receiving a full Hollywood treatment. Universal bought the rights up for this game months ago, so its not much of a surprise that they are already working on bringing this hit to the big screen. But the amazing news that has just broken is that not only are they getting a terrific writer, but they have also nabbed a director who is known for making great movies off of hard premises and franchises.
Paramount has signed John Logan (who wrote the script for Martin Scorcese’s The Aviator) to adapt this game’s plot to a full length feature. But even more excited, they were also able to get Gore Verbinski (director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) to direct the movie.
Now say what you will about those last two “pirate” movies, you can’t deny that the man pulled off the impossible when he successfully brought to life a theme park ride from Disneyland and turned it into a great summer blockbuster. I mean honestly, I remember when they announced they were making a Pirates of the Caribbean movie and I thought to myself, “Great. That should be rather shitty.” Then I saw a trailer…”Holy crap. This could actually be good.” So honestly people, this is terrific news. Because lets face it, videogame movies do not have a very good track record (except for maybe Silent Hill and some others) but this could actually be pretty damn good if handled right.
What do you all think?
